Pema is a young diligently hardworking girl from Phanyul in Wangdue Phodrang. She graduated from Nangkor Central School with a diploma in Science. After she lost her father in 2017, she and her three younger siblings are being raised alone by their mother who is a sweeper. Ever since her childhood, Pema saw nurses as ideal role models for what it means to be selfless and helpful to humanity, thus she developed a strong zest to become a nurse herself. Her mother works hard to ensure education for Pema and all her siblings, but due to her low-income and difficult financial constraints, it was impossible to support Pema’s undergraduate studies. Therefore, Pema sees the Loden Scholarship as not only a key to achieving her life-long dream but also a crucial gateway to get back on her feet and become the backbone for her younger siblings so that they can get the same opportunity to chase their dreams.
