After serving as an English and History teacher for 12 years, Chimi was actively engaged in agri-business activities – value adding and marketing of our local produce. In 2021, she launched Bhutan Growers, a start-up agri-business enterprise based in Thimphu. Through the agriculture development services (ARDC- Wengkhar, RAMCO – Mongar, Dzongkhag Extension Service), she connected with farmers, Farmer Groups/Cooperatives in three dzongkhags (Lhuntse, Trashigang, and Mongar). Bhutan Growers focuses on traditionally grown oil seed crops (perilla, mustard, ground nuts and hazelnut oils through cold press technology). While undertaking the value addition of the products under Lhomen Foods, Bhutan Growers aim to tap into a niche high-end market, to obtain premium price and pay premium price to the farmers.
