Capitalizing on Samdrup Jongkhar’s push for organic products, Chhimi Dorjee established Bhutan Naturals, which produces essential ginger oils; dried ginger powders; and grading, labeling, and certifying fresh ginger for exports. Chhimi and his team reap the benefits of Samdrup Jongkhar being one of the significant ginger-growing districts and support locals who recently switched to producing ginger as an alternative to cultivating mandarins whose production was hindered due to weather conditions. They aim to create employment opportunities, reduce rural-urban migration and increase farmers’ income by providing a secure market.
