Khemdro Dairy (KD) stands as a triple bottom-line dairy social enterprise dedicated to enhancing the value of dairy milk sourced from smallholder farmers in Phobjikha. Operating with a commitment to sustainability, KD collects milk from over 68 households, employing three full-time and two part-time workers. The diverse range of dairy products produced includes cheese, butter, ice cream, and yogurt.

With the infusion of scale-up funding, Khemdro is set to introduce cutting-edge automation to its ice cream and yogurt production processes. This entails integrating a programmable automatic Ice Cream and Yogurt Packaging Machine, capable of filling and sealing various products such as textured ice cream cups, plain and flavored yogurt cups, ice cream cornetto with crunchy cones, and dairy drinks like flavored milk and lassi. Additionally, a Horizontal Pillow-Pouching Machine will be introduced for packaging choco-bars and frozen fruit bars.

The strategic adoption of these automated technologies aims to facilitate the inclusion of over 100 farmers into KD’s value chain, leveraging the enhanced production capabilities. Simultaneously, the initiative seeks to generate employment opportunities for six youths, aligning with the conditions outlined in the grant-loan agreement.
