DAMU (Druk Adding Masala Unit) is a small-scale business producing turmeric powder and other spices from locally grown herbs and plants located at Norbuzhingkha village, Tshendagang gewog under Dagana Dzongkhag. The business is led by Narath Koirala who is a class 12 graduate and was recently unemployed.
Narath attended Loden SEED training supported by UNICEF Bhutan at the Integrated Youth Center in Gelephu in partnership with the Youth Centre Division, Department of Youth and Sports under Ministry of Education in June 2019. His business was shortlisted as a part of the training and later received full support in October 2019.
DAMU aims to substitute imported spices in the market with Bhutanese 100% Natural spices. This project is supported through the Loden-UNDP funding window.
