Loden Entrepreneur Wins Global Entrepreneurial Award

Greener Way, Bhutan’s first private waste management firm started by Karma Yonten and his team has been awarded the Global Environment Entrepreneur of the Year, 2013 by Youth Business International, a leading non-profit initiative present in 40 countries.His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is the President of Youth Business International

This is the world premier event, organized every year, for recognizing and rewarding the achievements of successful young entrepreneurs.

“I am deeply honored to be representing Bhutan in receiving this award. Our beloved King’s constant encouragement to the youth has been to strive to be the best not only at national level but in the international arena as well. Therefore, I feel doubly blessed to be able to be an example for my fellow citizens especially who are on their exciting entrepreneurial journeys” said Karma Yonten.

According to Mr Pema Wangchuk, Special Executive Officer of Loden Foundation; “this competition is a high profile global event receiving media coverage across the globe .He also added that a number of our youths have brilliant and generous ideas and are capable of doing good business but access to capital, especially at an early stage,  is a major problem. “

new7Greener Way is one of the pioneering entrepreneurial projects supported by Loden out of 54 entrepreneurial projects spread over 14 different districts. Loden is one of the leading Civil Society Organizations in Bhutan empowering youth through entrepreneurship. Since 2008, Loden provides customized entrepreneurship training and selects emerging entrepreneurs who receive interest-free loans and strong mentoring services. These are key factors contributing to the success of its entrepreneurship programme.

This is the second time for Loden to receive such a prestigious global award. Ms Deki Wangmo, who runs Buddha Tyre Rethreading firm in Thimphu was awarded the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year in September 2011.

Karma Yonten accompanied by Loden’s Special Executive will be flying to London in September 2013 to receive that special award.
