Leki Dawa of Bhutan Alternatives wins Loden’s Best Entrepreneur Award 2019

Loden Foundation started it’s entrepreneurship programme in 2008 with an objective to address growing youth unemployment in Bhutan and to mitigate rural urban migration. The programme provides interest and collateral free loan to aspiring entrepreneurs up to Nu. 1.5 million amount other important support scheme such as mentorship, monitoring, capacity building, networking and so on.

As a part of the programme, Loden Foundation also focuses on creating role models of the supported entrepreneurs for young Bhutanese to look up to and follow through its annual Best Loden Entrepreneur Award. This year, the competition for the Best Loden Entrepreneur Award took place at the Thimphu Clock Tower during the second edition of Druk Tshongrig Gatoen on the evening go 19 October in a very exciting format where the shortlisted entrepreneurs shared their entrepreneurial journey, achievements, contributions to the society and other impact in front of a large gathering.

Mr. Leki Dawa, the founder and CEO of Bhutan Alternatives, won the Best Loden Entrepreneur Award 2019. Bhutan Alternative is a one-stop firm where people can purchase eco-friendly, high quality and affordable printer toner cartridges. Their uniqueness in their business is that they recycle used printer toner cartridges. This helps reduce e-waste and also makes the products affordable. Besides several environmental benefits, he supports youths who are economically disadvantaged youth and now supplying tonner printer cartage to numerous SCO offices at free of cost. He is the first company to raise Nu.22 million from crowdfunding recently. Leki received the interest and collateral free loan under Loden-DHI window in 2017 and he cleared his entire loan before his deadline.

He received a token of appreciation along with certificate and cash price of Nu.200, 000 that was supported from Switzerland Society Bhutan (SSB) at the closing of Druk Tshongrig Gatoen on 20 October at RUB, Thimphu.

Loden Foundation started its Best Loden Entrepreneur Award in 2012 and so far 4 women entrepreneurs and 3 male entrepreneurs have received the award. In addition to acknowledging their contribution towards promotion of entrepreneurship and becoming role models in the society, the award celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship culture in the country.
